HODGDON POND FARM

Welcome!

Encompassing over 7.4 acres of woods and pasture, with 825 feet of shorefront on a 40-acre pond, Hodgdon Pond Farm is private but accessible. Somesville, the center of Mount Desert Island, is only 4.8 miles away. The inlet and outlet of Hodgdon Pond, as well as the entire opposite shore, are owned and protected by Acadia National Park. Guests can enjoy swimming, fishing, and canoeing, as well as seeing birds and mammals including eagles, osprey, kingfisher, loon, beaver, fox, raccoon and deer, and occasionally otter, moose, and bear.

The extraordinary resources of Mount Desert Island await the visitor. Acadia National Park owns over 33,000 acres of land with well-maintained trails and offers regularly scheduled nature walks and trips to outer islands. Boats are available for charter or day trips. Numerous museums, concerts, excellent restaurants, shops and art exhibits provide indoor attractions. We maintain a directory of events and a full complement of brochures and maps in each cottage to help you plan your vacation.

The cottages are widely separated from each other. Each has frontage on the pond and its own dock, a rowboat, two kayaks, a paddle board and a canoe. Each cottage has three bedrooms, two baths, and over 1400 square feet of living space.

Cottage 2 is slightly larger than Cottage 1 because there is a dormer in the Master bedroom that gives a view over the pond, and it is on deeper water. The cottages are fully furnished and each has a washer, dryer, dishwasher, microwave, radio, television, DVD player, and charcoal grill. There is a booster seat, Port-a-crib and child gate in each cottage, and a swing-set and sand box on the property. We supply all linens and will send an inventory of each cottage on request.

Rentals are from Saturday at 4:00 PM until the following Saturday at 10:00 AM in Cottage 1 and from 5:00 PM to 11:00 AM in Cottage 2. We limit occupancy to 7 people per cottage, and charge an additional $200.00 for the 7th guest We do not accept pets or smoking in the cottages or on the property. There is a $125.00 cleaning and laundry fee, and we ask that you leave the cottage ready for cleaning. The rental rate does not include the 9% state tax on rent and fees.

Quiet, Private Location

We appreciate the quiet, private location and the cottages are comfortably accommodating.  What really makes Hodgdon Pond Farm stand out from all of the other places we have stayed on the island is that when we return to the cottage after a day of exploring Acadia, we still feel like we are in the park.

Fun-filled, but relaxing week!

So in one week we were able to hike, bike, canoe, kayak, swim, fish, sleep in, read, see July 4th fireworks, attend Rotary pancake breakfast and lobster lunch (July 4th), boat ride (Little Cranberry Island), learn about marine animals (Oceanarium), barbeque, play board games with the kids, have celebrity sightings, and I love sampling some of the cheeses and wines from the  wine and cheese shop in Southwest Harbor.  I can’t think of any place besides Acadia where you could have a more fun-filled, but relaxing week!

Wow...where to begin?

Things we like best. Wow…where to begin? The cottages are absolutely private, on a lovely pond, which is perfect for swimming and playing about in the canoes and kayaks. The accommodations are immaculate, up-to-date, bright and pretty. Most important, Hodgdon Pond is situated within easy access of Acadia National Park and the myriad wonderful things to do in and around that area. We could have easily kept ourselves and the children busy for two weeks, instead of the one we had reserved.

We would recommend staying at Hodgdon Pond Farm because of: lovely accommodations that are well-maintained; restful , peaceful setting; many, many wonderful things to do in the area.

The Hodgdon Pond Farm experience is relaxed, removed, quiet, rejuvenating

The houses are attractive, clean, well-appointed, and very livable. The lake is beautiful, and provides swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and just a beautiful setting for reading and observing wildlife. We love being on the quiet side, and yet we can still get easily to activities of all sorts all over the island. The whole feel of the Hodgdon Pond experience is relaxed, removed, quiet, rejuvenating. It’s a place that nourishes quality, wholesome, family time. At the same time, there are endless adventures available in the park: each year we do somehting new, in addition to lots of old favorites.

This is a setting for people who want to soak up the natural grandeur of Mt. Desert Island without being barraged by tacky tourist culture and needing to eat out all the time. It’s the perfect place to bring extended, multigenerational family. By its very nature, it creates wonderful memories that last throughout the year.

The place has everything!

If location is everything, then the place has everything! Our first visit to M.D.I. was all we hoped it would be and having this rental to come to after each day’s adventures was great.

This Cottage is our very favorite of all the places we’ve stayed.

We have been very fortunate and have visited MDI over a dozen times in the last 30 years. This Cottage is our very favorite of all the places we’ve stayed.  The quiet and natural beauty here are magnificent. In addition to the natural beauty, we found this house to be well designed very well organized & attractive.  A place anyone would want to stay.

The cottage was perfect.

We had such a wonderful week here!  The cottage was perfect.  We loved sitting outside exploring the small ponds, canoeing, and playing games.  The fall leaves were beautiful, and the combination of the mountain, water, and leaves were breathtaking.
